Schematic. Every engine family we support has been torn down, measured and followed in the field for years.
Visit our shop and you'll quickly notice: the range is narrow. A handful of engine families, a handful of solutions, that's it. No universal programme for anything with four cylinders. That's not a lack of ambition, but the result of a decision we made early on and want to explain here.
Before we offer a solution for an engine, the following happens: we source vehicles and engines, tear them down, and measure them down to manufacturing tolerances and surface finishes (what this research work looks like). We fit measurement equipment, run measurement series under controlled conditions, and evaluate them (with our own hardware and software). We design, build prototypes, test them in real vehicles, discard, improve. And because no two production engines are alike, a single example is never enough for this.
This process doesn't take weeks, it takes years. Our conversion system for the EA189 engines has been in the field since 2015, and the experience from every year since has fed into today's revisions. That depth is the real value of our products. It cannot be spread across twenty engine families at once, by anyone.
Of course we could broaden our range. The market offers plenty of engines with known weaknesses, and selling those would be possible too. But we would know, with every one of those products, that it lacked what carries our existing solutions: the torn-down engines, the measurement series, the years in the field. We would be selling assumptions instead of measurement results.
We don't want that, for a simple reason: with an engine's oil supply, there are no small mistakes. A solution that fits 90% of the time is not a solution. The remaining 10% can mean engine damage, and that then happens to a customer who trusted us.
For you as a customer, this focus means three things. You get a solution backed by real research and measurement work on exactly your engine type, documented right down to our own comparative metric. You get answers from people who have had this engine torn down on the workbench, not just its catalogue entry. And you get a product that has matured over years across thousands of vehicles, rather than a novelty still working out its teething troubles on its buyers.
Should another engine ever join our programme, it will only be once it has gone through the same process. Until then: better to truly understand a few things than merely to offer many.
Transparency note: MMHP has been developing and manufacturing products for the automotive industry for 25 years and focuses its conversion solutions on the oil supply of selected VW TDI engine families.
